Profile

Los Angeles FC (LAFC) is a professional football club based in Los Angeles, California, that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was founded in 2014 and began playing in the MLS in 2018 as an expansion team. Despite being a relatively new team, LAFC has quickly become one of the most successful and popular teams in the league.

History

LAFC was founded by a group of business leaders and sports executives, including Henry Nguyen, Tom Penn, and Peter Guber. The team’s ownership group also includes several high-profile celebrities, such as Will Ferrell, Magic Johnson, and Mia Hamm.

The team played its first game on March 4, 2018, against the Seattle Sounders, which they won 1-0. The club’s first goal was scored by Diego Rossi, a Uruguayan forward who has since become one of the team’s star players.

In their inaugural season, LAFC finished third in the Western Conference with a record of 16 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses. They advanced to the playoffs but were knocked out in the first round by Real Salt Lake.

The following season, LAFC had one of the best regular-season records in MLS history, with 21 wins, 9 draws, and only 4 losses. They set a new record for the most points in a season, with 72, and won the Supporters’ Shield, which is awarded to the team with the best regular-season record. However, they were once again knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, this time by the Seattle Sounders.

CONCACAF Champions League

In 2020, Los Angeles FC made their debut appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League. Despite losing the first leg 2-0 to Club León, LAFC made a stunning comeback in the second leg, winning 3-0 and advancing to the round of 16 with a 3-2 aggregate score. However, the tournament was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. When the tournament resumed in December with a new one-off format, LAFC continued their impressive run, defeating Cruz Azul 2-1 after initially falling behind 1-0. In the semifinals, LAFC once again came from behind to beat Club América 3-1. They became the third MLS team to make it to the final, but were ultimately defeated 2-1 by Tigres UANL, who went on to become the runners-up in the Club World Cup.

Moving to the 2022 MLS season, LAFC started off strong, pushing for the league’s all-time points record of 73 points, which they had set the previous year. However, major squad turnover caused a string of losses, with the team losing five of their final nine matches, ultimately settling for 67 points as they won their second Supporters’ Shield. Despite this, LAFC were able to overcome their archrivals, the Galaxy, in the conference semifinals, winning 3-2. They then beat Austin FC 3-0 to advance to their first-ever MLS Cup.

MLS Cup final

In the 2022 MLS Cup final, LAFC faced off against the Philadelphia Union in a thrilling match that saw the two latest goals in MLS Cup Playoffs history. The match ended in a 3-3 draw after extra time, with Gareth Bale scoring a late equalizer in the 128th minute. LAFC ultimately won the match in a penalty shootout, with substitute goalkeeper John McCarthy making two saves and being named the most valuable player of the match. With this victory, LAFC secured their first MLS Cup championship in club history.

Stadium and Supporters

LAFC plays its home games at Banc of California Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Los Angeles. The stadium has a capacity of 22,000 fans and features modern amenities, including a 360-degree video board and a safe-standing section for supporters.

The team has a passionate and diverse fan base, known as the 3252. The name refers to the number of seats in the north end of the stadium, where the team’s supporters congregate. The 3252 is one of the largest and most vocal supporters’ groups in MLS and is known for creating a lively and festive atmosphere at LAFC games.

LAFC has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting and successful teams in MLS. With a talented roster of players, a state-of-the-art stadium, and a passionate fan base, the team is poised to continue its success in the coming years. Whether you’re a die-hard soccer fan or a casual observer, LAFC is a team worth following in the MLS.

final thoughts

A Los Angeles stack is looking pretty solid especially up front with 2 really good strikers on Sorare. Decent defensive stack too and the only weakness is probably the midfield in terms of a full stack. The best youth prospects in terms of Sorare are Antonio Leone and Stipe Biuk.
